Who Are We?

We are a non-profit organization for youth filmmakers open to all students registered in high school across Ontario!

A great place to learn, create and grow, the Ontario Youth Film Festival, along with our partner regional festivals, works to nurture the development of young aspiring filmmakers. We celebrate, inspire, and promote the future storytellers of Ontario.

Tiered Competition

Much like the progression of school sport competitions, the OYFF is the provincial-level of youth film festivals. To qualify, a youth filmmaker must first place highly in their home’s regional film festival!

To date, we currently have two regional film festivals that send their top films and filmmakers on to the OYFF:

Central Ontario Youth Short Film Festival

Presented by the Barrie Film Festival, the COYSFF represents the Central Ontario region. The first COYSFF was held in October of 2022!

Forest City Youth Film Festival

Presented by the Forest City Film Festival, the FCYFF represents the Southwestern Ontario region. The first FCYFF was held in October of 2019. Alumni have gone on to start incredible careers in filmmaking!

Educators Portal

The OYFF offers an affordable online portal for informative virtual seminars and resources to help Ontario school boards teach students the fundamental skills of digital storytelling for class and future career opportunities.

Virtual interactive seminars give high schoolers and aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of filmmaking from industry experts, student filmmakers and post-secondary educators, with additional focus on career opportunities.

This experience provides authentic and engaging opportunities for students to:

  1. Actively participate (What?)
  2. Reflect to derive meaning (So what?)
  3. Apply learning to influence next steps (Now what?)
